DALLAS — In a heartfelt update shared on social media, rising country music star Joshua Ray Walker announced that his battle with colon cancer has progressed, revealing that the disease has now spread to his lungs. This news comes shortly after Walker completed a grueling round of chemotherapy, which he described as “extremely tough.”

Cancer Diagnosis Update

On Tuesday morning, the Dallas-based singer took to Instagram to disclose that “multiple nodes of varying sizes” were found in both of his lungs. With this new development, he anticipates that his cancer will likely be reclassified as stage 4. Walker expressed his commitment to staying strong throughout the process, stating, “I will keep y’all as updated as possible and I will continue to fight my hardest.”

While he refrained from sharing specific numbers regarding his situation, Walker emphasized a determination not to succumb to despair, saying, “The odds have definitely shifted, but I’m not going to publish them here. It seems defeatist, and unnecessary.”

Upcoming Medical Procedures

Walker is scheduled to undergo a biopsy soon, along with plans to start radiation treatment shortly thereafter. Despite the seriousness of his condition, he described his recent health journey as holding both “good news and bad news.” The good news, he noted, is that his body managed to endure the taxing chemotherapy, allowing him to start rebuilding his strength and immune system.

Support from the Community

In light of the challenges posed by his treatment, Walker has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses and provide for his well-being during this critical phase of his life. As of September 14, the campaign had successfully raised over $110,000, indicating a strong support network among fans and the community. Walker shared his hesitance to seek help, admitting, “I have a hard time asking for help, even when I believe it will be given happily.”

Artistic Pursuits Amidst Health Trials

Despite facing severe health challenges, Walker’s career in country music continues to flourish. Earlier this year, he performed a series of sold-out shows at the Kessler Theater in Dallas, marking a significant achievement in his artistic journey. He also joined the Ottoman Turks for a performance at the Granada Theater in Dallas in August.

With a style that features non-traditional country music and character-driven narratives, Walker aims to create songs that resonate deeply with his listeners. Among his notable hits is “Canyon,” a track he dedicated to his late father, who succumbed to cancer more than seven years prior.

The Road Ahead

Walker’s cancer diagnosis came at a pivotal moment in his career, just as he reached new milestones in his music endeavors. Health concerns began in late 2022 when he experienced unexplained symptoms, leading to an appendicitis diagnosis and subsequent tests that confirmed the discovery of his colon cancer. He received the life-altering call about his diagnosis while on his way to perform on the Jimmy Kimmel Show.

In early January, Walker underwent surgery to remove parts of his colon, appendix, and intestines. Following his surgery, he commenced a chemotherapy regimen that lasted throughout the summer.

Looking Forward

When approached earlier this year by WFAA to discuss his health and career, Walker expressed a mixture of optimism and patience about his future. “People are going to forget I was gone for six months,” he mentioned, affirming his dedication to continuing his artistry. “I have a lot more music I want to make, and more art to create,” he articulated, providing a glimpse of his future aspirations.

As Walker navigates this challenging chapter of his life, he remains a symbol of resilience for his fans and the broader community, vowing to keep fighting while pursuing his passion for music.

During this journey, the donations and kind words from fans remind him how much his art means to people. It shows that there is a community that supports him, especially during this tough time.
