In a city known for its rich culinary scene, a new initiative has launched to support local dining establishments facing tough times. Macao News has introduced “Macao News Recommends,” a unique campaign providing free promotional support to independent restaurants. This initiative aims to assist local eateries as they navigate rising costs and changing consumer behaviours.
Supporting Local Restaurants
The “Macao News Recommends” program is the first of its kind in the city and includes an impressive lineup of initial participants. Featured restaurants include:
- Cafe Hanoi – a specialist in Vietnamese phô
- Common Table – a cozy café located in Taipa
- Justindia – serving modern Indian cuisine
- La Santé – a French bistro
- Tapas de Portugal - a popular spot for Portuguese dishes
These eateries will receive extensive coverage through the Macao News website and its daily newsletter, The Tea, along with promotion on social media platforms that boast over 67,000 followers.
To help diners easily identify these recommended establishments, a “Macao News Recommends 2024” window sticker will be displayed at each restaurant. A survey by Macao News revealed that nearly 40 percent of its readers eat out 3 to 5 times a week, while 38 percent have an annual income exceeding HK$708,000.
A Win-Win for Everyone
Mariana Cesár de Sá, the publisher and CEO of Macao News, expressed enthusiasm for the program. “Our readers are eager to know about Macao’s dining offerings and are willing to spend at restaurants and other brands that successfully compete for their attention,” she stated. “The Macao News Recommends campaign helps restaurants do that at a time that really matters for the industry. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
The Chief Executive Election Presentation
In addition to the dining campaign, important political events are unfolding in Macao. A presentation session regarding the political platform of the Chief Executive candidate is set to take place. Scheduled tomorrow, the session will allow members of the Chief Executive Election Committee to engage with the candidate and understand their political agenda.
The Electoral Affairs Commission will host this event from 10 AM to 1 PM at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex. Attendees are required to register and bring their Chief Executive Election Committee member cards.
The official campaigning period for the sixth-term Chief Executive election will commence at midnight on September 28 and last until midnight on October 11. The session will be broadcast live on public channels, enabling broader audience participation.
How the Public Can Engage
Members of the public can watch the presentation and Q&A session through various platforms, including:
- The Macao Special Administrative Region Government Portal
- The Chief Executive Election website
- TDM’s television and radio channels
- The Government Information Bureau’s YouTube channel and Facebook page
Participation in the Q&A will be through a lottery system. Each member of the committee can speak for up to two minutes when their turn arrives.
Regulating Gaming and Diversifying the Economy
The chief executive candidate has also committed to regulating the gaming sector, ensuring its healthy and orderly growth. “We will strictly implement a new gaming law to regulate the industry and ensure its healthy, orderly development,” said Sam Hou-fai. He emphasized the importance of supporting diverse industries to attract more visitors from outside mainland China.
This approach reflects the candidate’s broader vision to not only strengthen existing sectors but also to foster new growth opportunities amid changes in the global market.
With initiatives like “Macao News Recommends” and crucial political engagements, Macao is finding paths to adapt to current challenges while nurturing its vibrant dining culture and ensuring sound governance. As local restaurants gain visibility and the political landscape evolves, residents and visitors alike will benefit from an interconnected community that champions growth and resilience.
