Johnny Marr has announced the release of a deluxe edition of his 2003 album “Boomslang,” along with a series of live performances across the UK and North America. The Spirit Power Tour will feature Marr alongside James, kicking off in September in North America. The album will be available in multiple formats, including a 2LP 180g vinyl edition that features five additional tracks, alongside the original 11 songs. The 2CD and digital versions include extra tracks like ‘You Are The Magic’ (Union Mix) and an instrumental version of ‘Get Me Wrong,’ all newly mastered by Frank Arkwright.
Reflecting on the creation of “Boomslang,” Marr reminisced about the band’s communal living and creative experimentation at a place called Forest Edge, drawing inspiration from various musical and esoteric sources. The Healers, which included drummer Zak Starkey and bassist Alonza Bevan, aimed to break away from the prevailing 1990s British indie sound.
This year, Marr has been busy touring and recently sold out shows in the UK. He also played at famous festivals like the Isle of Wight Festival and Lytham Festival. With the release of “Boomslang,” Marr wants to celebrate his music journey and give fans a chance to look back at this important time in his career. The deluxe edition of “Boomslang” will come out through BMG, and it will include extra songs that show how Marr is always growing as a songwriter.
