Amur Tiger Cubs Experience Adventure at Longleat Safari Park
In a heartwarming spectacle, four rare Amur tiger cubs have embarked on their first exploration of a new habitat at Longleat Safari Park, located in Wiltshire, UK. Accompanied by their mother, Yana, the cubs ventured into the drive-through section known as Tiger Territory, capturing the attention of both park staff and visitors alike. The four female cubs, who were initially tentative, gradually grew in confidence as they followed their mother into the new area. “The four of them cautiously followed mum into the drive-through and then grew in confidence to explore the area,” Waller commented.
The Role of Mother and Keepers
The gradual introduction to the new territory is a carefully orchestrated process, led by Yana and supported by the dedicated keepers at Longleat. “We have always said it will be a gradual process led by Yana and the guidance of the keepers, as it is really important we make sure Yana and the cubs are confident about where they are and what they are experiencing,” Waller explained. “Yana decided when she’d had enough and led them back indoors.”
Home to the UK’s Largest Tiger Population
With the birth of these cubs, Longleat has now become home to the largest number of tigers in the UK. The park’s current tiger family includes Yana, their father Red, and their older sister Yuki. This burgeoning family of Amur tigers not only adds to the biodiversity of the park but also plays a crucial role in raising awareness about this endangered species.
