Despite early reports indicating that Anasta detained the individual until police arrived, a statement from NSW Police clarified that the man had already escaped the scene by the time officers arrived. Police were called following reports of the incident, which resulted in the evacuation of the hotel. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
“About 8:30 PM Friday, officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were called to a hotel on Bronte Road, Waverley, following reports a man had sprayed the contents of a fire extinguisher inside the business,” a police spokesperson stated. “As inquiries are ongoing, anyone with information is urged to contact Waverley Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
