Currently, Ripper GC holds the advantage, leading Smash by 19.5 points and Torque by 28 points. A victory in Chicago, where a tournament win is worth 32 points, could solidify their position, while a solo third place would guarantee them the bye.
Smith discussed his team’s mindset leading into the event: “We’ve spoken a bunch over the last three weeks about getting that third bye for Dallas, and it’s something that we’re all thinking about.” His team is coming off back-to-back victories in Adelaide and Singapore, adding to the mounting pressure as they look to capitalize on their momentum.

“The bye would be great, but even if we don’t get it, having the first pick and playing whatever other team that we pick is not a bad play,” explained Jason Kokrak of Smash. Currently in fourth place and needing at least a tie for second to keep their bye hopes alive, the team is aware of the multiple scenarios that could unfold depending on their performance and that of other teams.
Torque GC’s Challenge
Torque GC, which had a banner year last season with four wins, finds themselves in a challenging position this time around, as they seek their first victory of the season. Niemann’s squad has had a surprising winless record thus far, leaving them with a long shot to earn a bye. Despite the uphill battle, Niemann expressed optimism: “There’s a lot that needs to happen. But we still feel pretty good knowing that, worst-case scenario, we’ve got to play an extra day, match play against another team, which I feel like is a pretty good format for us.”
