Indonesia finds itself in a challenging position as it prepares to face Saudi Arabia in the World Cup qualifiers. The last 12 months have been tough for Indonesia, with their only victories coming against the Philippines, alongside wins against Brunei and Vietnam. Shin Tae-yong’s side has recorded just four victories out of their last 14 matches, and they could struggle significantly against the formidable Saudis.
Saudi Arabia, under coach Roberto Mancini, aims to regain its status as a top footballing nation in Asia. The Green Falcons have participated in the last two World Cups and expect to qualify for the upcoming tournament in North America due to the expanded format of 48 teams. To achieve this, they must secure victories against opponents in their group, particularly against the lower-ranked Indonesia.
The Saudis currently sit in a strong position in their qualifying group and need to perform well. Despite a rocky start to Mancini’s tenure, there is optimism that he can lead the team back to the World Cup. However, Saudi Arabia has faced its share of setbacks, including a disappointing performance in the Asian Cup.
In terms of team composition, Saudi Arabia boasts a roster rich in experience and talent, with players like Salem Al Dawsari, who is approaching 100 caps. The squad remains largely unchanged from previous international windows, allowing for continuity.
On Indonesia’s side, the team includes several players based in Europe, particularly the Netherlands, as they aim to bolster their ranks. However, key defensive players are missing due to suspension and injury, which could weaken their performance against stronger opponents.
Saudi Arabia is expected to win strongly, possibly with a score of 4-0. This shows just how much more experience and skill they have compared to Indonesia. Indonesia is trying hard to improve in Asian football, but this game will be a big challenge for them. They will do their best to compete, but it’s going to be tough.
