The show is the county’s biggest rural celebration, featuring a variety of attractions, including the first appearance of Atkinson Action Horses and the popular motorcycle display team, The IMPs, known for their fire jumps.
Expect an array of thrilling activities such as tomahawk throwing, showcasing massive pumpkins over 1,000lbs, and various horse and pony events, from horse logging to Shetland racing. Dorset Seafood Festival
Food enthusiasts will not want to miss the Dorset Seafood Festival happening at Weymouth Peninsula, also on September 7 and 8. This annual event, marking its sixteenth year, returns after a brief cancellation due to site fee increases. This year’s festival promises an impressive lineup of local seafood, ales, and cocktails, alongside live music from local legends The Leggomen.
Admission is £15 for a day ticket, or £25 for the weekend. Special discounted tickets are available for seniors and locals living in specific postcode areas. Bridport Hat Festival
For something a little more quirky, head over to Bridport on September 7 for the Bridport Hat Festival in Bucky Doo Square. Originally a charitable fun event started in 2010, it has quickly grown into a beloved tradition. Participants are encouraged to wear their most creative hats, with various competition categories such as best lady, best gent, and family group.
Judging will commence at 1 p.m. and promises to be a cheerful spectacle. Live entertainment will feature local musicians and performances by groups like Bridport Broadsides. This year’s festival invites everyone to join in the fun and bring their best hat!
B-Side Festival
Art lovers can explore the B-Side Festival happening on Portland until September 8.
