WEST FARGO – The Oasis Restaurant and Bar has announced its decision to close after just over a year and a half of operation. The restaurant, located at 3147 Bluestem Drive, will serve its final customers on September 29. The news was conveyed through a sign placed at the restaurant’s entrance.
Challenges and Closure
Co-owner John Weng cited numerous difficulties that contributed to the decision to close the establishment. Although Weng noted that the restaurant was not operating at a loss, it was not generating sufficient profits to justify its continuation. “We’re not losing money. But we’re not making money here. I don’t want to put more time into it,” Weng stated on September 11. He acknowledged that while the concept of a casual fine dining restaurant specializing in Cajun seafood had potential, it ultimately did not resonate with the local market. Weng remarked, “It was a good idea to begin with, but I don’t think North Dakota was attracted to items such as seafood boils. We put two to three years into the place. We should put a period on that.”
History of Oasis Restaurant
Oasis Restaurant and Bar opened its doors on February 25, 2022, in a location that previously housed BLVD Pub. The establishment was situated near busy Veterans Boulevard, an area known for its variety of dining options. PLVD Pub had been operational from late spring 2016 until its closure in March 2020, which coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic left many businesses struggling, and BLVD Pub did not reopen after mandatory restrictions were lifted.
Weng and his partners, who have extensive experience in the restaurant industry, operate several other dining establishments in the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo region. Their portfolio includes Izumi Sushi and Hibachi, Samurai Japanese Restaurant in Fargo, Mr. Wok Chinese Express, Ninja Ramen Poke Bowl, and Ginza Ramen and Poke located in the West Acres shopping center food court.
Gift Certificates and Final Operations
As the establishment prepares to close, Weng has assured customers that all gift certificates will either be honored before the closing date or refunds will be issued. This policy aims to ensure a smooth transition for patrons who have supported the restaurant during its brief existence.
