This flexibility is vital for fostering student engagement, as junior Ahmad Harris shared, stating, “Future Fridays have been amazing.”
The school’s investment in relevant career training has also attracted young instructors like Nicholas Sanborn, a professional welder who was pleasantly surprised to find himself teaching students at PCI. “I didn’t think I would ever be in charge of a classroom,” he confessed, reflecting on his journey to this point.

“Spalding Drive Elementary means so much to me and my family,” said Ginny Conrad, a parent whose son benefits from the small class sizes and specialized support available at Spalding Drive. “It’s been a lifeline for us,” she added, highlighting the value of the school within the community.
Addressing Enrollment Issues
Noel Maloof, the Chief Operations Officer of Fulton County Schools, explained that the district must examine several factors when considering school consolidation. Key criteria include:

- Enrollment numbers (below 450 students)
- Capacity at nearby schools
Currently, Spalding Drive has just under 350 students. Parents argue that academic performance should also weigh heavily in these decisions, as Spalding Drive consistently performs better than numerous nearby institutions.
“Academic scores should be considered,” said Conrad, advocating for her school’s reputation and the support it offers to students, particularly those with special needs.
