Kevin Quiambao, the star player for the De La Salle Green Archers, is embracing a thrilling new chapter in his life: fatherhood. Just days after the birth of his son on September 24, Quiambao took to the court, showcasing his talent despite a lack of sleep. His recent performances highlight not only his skill in basketball but also his determination to balance family life and sports.
A New Arrival and a Game to Play
Quiambao welcomed his baby boy just in time for a crucial game against the FEU Tamaraws on September 25. “It’s a blessing… I am so blessed at this point that I am able to play at the highest level,” he said after the game. Despite his new responsibilities, he managed an impressive stat line with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. He came close to achieving a triple-double, showcasing his dedication to both his family and the game.
Finding Balance
Balancing duties as a new father, a student, and a basketball player presents challenges for the 23-year-old Quiambao. He remarked, “I will focus on the season and raising my baby,” admitting it’s hard to manage his time between playing basketball and being a dad. Coach Topex Robinson is supportive of Quiambao’s dual responsibilities. “We know that he’s going to be in and out,” Robinson stated. “Sometimes he’s not going to be in practice, sometimes he might even miss games.”

Robinson emphasizes the team’s collective strength, noting, “KQ is just a part of us but he’s not the whole of us.” The coach believes the team will step up when Quiambao is unable to play, reinforcing the importance of unity in their goals. The Green Archers aim to secure back-to-back championships, and with Quiambao’s dual focus on family and basketball, they strive to support each other in this pursuit.

As the UAAP Season 87 progresses, Quiambao is not just focusing on individual accolades, including his reign as the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
