Primož Roglič delivered a commanding performance in stage 19 of the Vuelta a España, reclaiming the overall lead with a strong victory on the Alto de Moncalvillo. After trailing Ben O’Connor for 13 days, Roglič’s decisive move with just under 5 kilometers to go allowed him to cross the finish line ahead of the competition and secure a time gap that places him at 1 minute and 54 seconds ahead of O’Connor in the general classification.
The stage began with several attacks as various riders vied for position, but Roglič’s team, Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, set a relentless pace throughout, aiming to bring the race under their control. O’Connor, who had led the overall standings since stage six, faced significant pressure from Roglič and was unable to maintain contact with his GC podium rivals as the stage progressed.
Enrique Mas also put up a strong fight, finishing the stage only 30 seconds behind Roglič, thereby maintaining a solid third place in the overall standings, albeit with a gap of 2 minutes and 20 seconds to Roglič. Richard Carapaz and David Gaudu continued to exert pressure in pursuit of podium positions, but Roglič’s powerful performance established him as the favorite for the final stages of the race.
