WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio recently shared insights about his initial skepticism regarding his son, Dominik Mysterio, adopting a heel persona in WWE. Speaking on the “Notsam Wrestling” podcast, Rey revealed his doubts about Dominik’s potential as a villain, highlighting an intriguing family dynamic where his wife held a different view about their son’s capabilities in the wrestling world.

Rey Mysterio has always believed in his son’s potential to outshine him in wrestling. “I, for some reason, always saw in my head, in my vision, that he was going to be bigger than his dad,” Rey explained. Although he had high hopes for Dominik, he struggled to envision him taking on the role of a villain. “Me, personally, I never saw him as the bad guy, I never saw him as the heel,” he admitted.
This sentiment stands in contrast to the aspirations held by Dominik’s mother. Rey explained, “My wife, despite our differences, saw the complete opposite. She kind of knew, and I guess moms know their kids better than the father.” His wife was confident that Dominik had the makings of a compelling heel, even if the full extent of his success was beyond their initial expectations.

Despite his initial hesitations, Rey expressed satisfaction with how Dominik has crafted his unique identity within WWE, distinct from his father’s celebrated legacy. “Him now becoming his own person, his own identity, has surprised me in a very good way,” Rey stated.
He further acknowledged the importance of Dominik’s independence in his developmental journey. “I don’t think my son would be doing better if he were by my side. I’m glad I kind of cut the wings off and he’s on his own,” Rey shared. This statement emphasizes Rey’s belief in allowing Dominik to carve out his path in the wrestling industry.
