Iconic figures Julian Clary and Jane McDonald have been unveiled in their roles for the upcoming pantomime “Robin Hood,” set to captivate audiences at the London Palladium this December. As Clary takes on the challenging lead role, McDonald makes her pantomime debut as Maid Marion, promising an enchanting festive season filled with laughter and memorable performances.
First Look at Clary and McDonald
The first images of Clary and McDonald as Robin Hood and Maid Marion have created a buzz among fans and theatergoers alike. Both stars are front and center in the promotional materials, surrounded by a talented cast that includes Paul Zerdin, Nigel Havers, Marisha Wallace, Charlie Stemp, Rob Madge, and Tosh Wanogho-Maud. Director Michael Harrison is at the helm of the production, while costumes have been designed by Hugh Durrant, in collaboration with Clary.
Clary, a seasoned performer at the Palladium, noted that this marks his ninth appearance in a pantomime at the renowned venue. He humorously described his portrayal, stating, “As you can see, I’m playing the challenging role of Robin Hood this year. He’s a rough, tough hot-blooded man and he’s got the hots for Jane McDonald. So – think Tom Hardy with a touch of raspberry lip balm.”
McDonald expressed her excitement about making her debut, stating, “I am thrilled to be making my debut in the iconic London Palladium panto, one of the highlights of the theatrical year. Julian and I are already falling in love off-stage, and we can’t wait to bring this to Maid Marion and Robin Hood come Christmas!”
A Tradition of Success
The London Palladium’s pantomime tradition has a stellar reputation, having successfully entertained audiences for years. Last year’s production, “Peter Pan,” which featured Jennifer Saunders alongside Clary, sold out its entire run, attracting over 123,000 attendees and earning a four-star rating from the Standard.
The upcoming “Robin Hood” is expected to continue this legacy of excellence. The show is slated to run from December 7, 2024, to January 12, 2025. Tickets are already in demand, reflecting the excitement surrounding this beloved holiday event.
